Zap! (nitenpyram)

Zap! is an oral capsule for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens 4 weeks of age and older and 2 pounds of body weight or greater.

Active Ingredients

Zap! capsules contain 11.4 or 57.0 mg of nitenpyram, which belongs to the chemical class of neonicotinoids. Nitenpyram kills adult fleas.

Directions

A single dose of Zap! should kill the adult fleas on your pet. If your pet gets re-infested with fleas, you can safely give another dose as often as once per day. To give Zap! capsules, place the pill directly in your pet’s mouth or open and mix with food. If you are not sure that your pet swallowed the pill, it is safe to give a second pill. Treat all infested pets in the household. Fleas can reproduce on untreated pets and allow infestations to persist.

Other Information

Zap! begins working within 15-30 minutes. In studies, nitenpyram achieved greater than 90% effectiveness against adult fleas on dogs within 4 hours and cats within 6 hours. Zap! is safe for pregnant or nursing dogs and cats.

When using this product, you may notice that your dog or cat will start scratching itself as fleas begin to die. The scratching behavior is temporary and is a reaction to the fleas, not the drug. In very rare cases in cats, this may present as transient signs of hyperactivity, panting, vocalization and excessive grooming.

Zap! kills adult fleas that cause flea allergy dermatitis (FAD). Also, fleas transmit other parasites, including tapeworms. The control of flea infestations is important to your pet’s health and also reduces the problems associated with these parasites.

Zap! may be used together with other products, including heartworm preventives, corticosteroids, antibiotics, vaccines, de-worming medications, shampoos and other flea products.

Zap! does not affect fleas in the pet’s environment. You may need to treat more than one time because immature fleas in and around the home will continue to develop into adults that can reinfest your pet.

In addition to killing adult fleas with Zap!, you can treat your pet with an insect development inhibitor like lufenuron to prevent and control flea populations.

This product is the best deal out there with this active ingredient, it does the job at a price I can actually afford! I have 6 cats so things can get costly quick. Keeping Zap on hand is part of my Florida flea killing fight! They caught me slipping one time but it won't happen again! Zap is a nessessary piece of the strategy. It does what it's supposed to every time.

Finally a safe and effective way to treat fleas

Posted by Leslie on Oct 18th 2023

After two years of using this product, I'm so grateful to have found something that works. I take care of over ten cats of my own and treat any strays or ferals I come across without ever having any issues. Topical treatments either didn't work or caused horrible side effects for a few of my cats, yet this has caused zero side effects and works immediately. Because I have many cats to take care of and I handle strays, I do flea comb every day to every other day to stay on top of any fleas that try to slip into the house, then I use these to treat as needed. One bottle of 100 lasts me for about the entire flea season, which is quite cost effective for the amount of cats I treat. In comparison, I would only get 3-4 topical flea treatments for the same price and it wouldn't be enough to treat everyone for even one month. I'll continue to be a customer and recommend this to everyone. Thank you!
